The kit came with some spacers that you put between the front and rear skin so that the transom comes out thick enough,other that that no braces,the shape pretty much stayed good enough however when i did the transom 11 years ago after removing the old transom the rear skin had lost about 5 degree of its angle same was the case this time because i never tried to bend it back , so i found motor mount wedges to place between the engine and transom to get the angle back that it used to have, the wedges were 5 degree.
It took almost 2 whole 5 gallon kits, i had as bit of leftover, also the upper left and right side of the transom where it curl's up still need to be filled but from what i understand that particular area doesnt actually provide support for the transom it is simply cosmetic so i will fill it with glass none the less and smooth it out the way it was when new

You shouldnt have to worry about it bulging out as long as the front and rear skin are thick enough, it was actually tough getting it to spread open far enough to get the spacers in
