Re: Mice

My house is 115 years old and situated beside a farm field. The first couple years we had more than our share of rodents coming in for the winter. I tried everything from traps to poison....it kills them, but you know they breed worse than rabbits so you have an endless supply of the little buggers.

I bought those plug-in rodent repellents. They worked amazing (and for bats too). My dogs are oblivious to it, and I haven't seen a rodent in 4 years (bonus). Plus, I dont have to do carcass removal or wonder where the poisoned corpses end up in my house :)

Now here is some food for thought. I had a single mouse scamper across the floor a month ago and scared the wife to the point she went right then to the store and bought glue traps, slap traps and poison. But the poison hasn't been touched the glue traps and slap traps remain un-molested. But I had pluged in a couple pest repellers a few days before seeing the mouse that I had had for years and I thought they might work well for spiders. I think you may be right, these things WORK! I am stunned since I had forgotten about them until reading your post.

Get a pellet gun and some beer and you can entertain yourself for quite some time from the sound of it.:D

I'm confused, you can have multiple mice as a tenants but not a cat? Get a hairless cat and nobody will tell the difference! :D Just tell the landlord its a rat.

Re: Mice

The last time I had a mouse in the house the Admiral spent 4 days sleeping in the car. I bought .22cal shotshells and loaded up my 9 shot revolver. Tore up the baseboard in the closet but I got the little bugger.

I should note I did some penetration testing with these shells beforehand. Shot a robin with the shotshell out of my revolver's 2 1/8 inch barrel from about 10 yards and it shrugged it off. Wouldn't go through drywall, 1/8 inch wood panel, or even the sports section doubled up...the .357 shot shells on the other hand...pretty hot rounds.

Re: Mice

I suggest this........They are there for shelter/heat, and food. You obviously can't do anything to eliminate the heat or shelter, but you might be able to do something about thier food supply. Make sure all possible food sources are in containers that they can't get into. This includes breakfast cereals, flour/sugar, crackers, pancake mixes, etc. Anything that comes in a cardboard box or soft bag is a possible source for them. Keep the dirty dishes cleaned up or at least rinsed out.
Keep the brain working on this thought process, and you might be surprised at how you are helping them, and how you can eliminate the food sources. If there's no food supply, they'll move on to "better" dwellings.

As to the holes you've plugged up, it may be that they are passing through the attic spaces, if the buildings are physically connected.

When I was a kid, we had a rather bad mouse problem as winter approached. I made very good use of my old Crossman Powermaster bb gun.
