Michael Jackson?

Just a question, is anyone else getting sick of the 24 hour all Michael Jackson all the time news coverage? Yes he was an icon but... he did have issues and we (news media) are treating him like the second coming. I for one am tired of it. Farrah Fawcett was much more of a humanitarian and got bumped off the radar screen like a fart in church.

I could never figure out the attraction to Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash, either. Both had awful voices and were pretty limited as musicians. None-the-less, both had huge careers and lots of people loved their music.

As an old GF of mine used to say, its about "whatever smokes your shorts!"

I was amazed that there wasnt any other news that happened during this time! ;) Typical news media reporting, give the people what they think they need (or what you want them to have). My TV has been off alot the last week or so. I prefer to watch no news than being force fed.

Re: Michael Jackson?

Barely any Jackson reporting on NPR. Turn off the tube and listen to some public radio, or just get your news somewhere else. It seems to me many people forget they aren't required to watch television (or even own one). There are plenty of news web sites which focus on news you find important. Sensationalism has been in effect since the early newspapers and only succeeds because the ratings people see viewers. They don't care whether you like the programming or not, so long as you still view it. Stop viewing it.

It isn't my intention to scold, but if you are consuming something you don't wish to and continue, the person to blame is you.

I agree with the thought about television - the only reason that I have cable, is because its "basic cable" and it comes with my internet account.

I happen to be almost exclusively listen to NPR,but.......

Guess what program will be broadcasted live on NPR tomorrow afternoon....the Jackson funeral show!
Oh today there was an interesting program that used M. Jackson as a handle.
The subject was " news or news show" or how to sell commercials.
Even on NPR you cannot escape freak shows such as M. Jackson

Re: Michael Jackson?

I have no respect for any celebrity that has a very young fan base and hides his habits in a closet. He turned into nothing but a junkie as far as I'm concerned. It is situations like that that keeps docs from prescribing pain meds to those that really do need it. I can remember when ole Rush got raked over the coals for his addiction to them, but nothing is being held to MJ and his addiction. That is the main reason why he quit touring.

I don't believe that ESPN has had one story on him :D,I personally don't watch a lot of T.V like lowkee I get a lot of my news off the internet and I only click on what I am interested in and MJ is not someone I am even concerned about

People love a train-wreck and the MJ story is about as gruesome as it gets.

Unfortunately, it's not going away anytime soon.
