Re: Michael Jackson?

I will give him credit for being a music icon. He gave nothing else to society.

I didn't want to defend MJ, but some statements are just idiotic.

"* He donated proceeds from the 1988 song "Man in the Mirror" to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, a camp for children who suffer from cancer.

* He equipped a 19-bed-unit at Mount Sinai New York Medical Center for cancer research and donated part of the earnings from his Victory Tour to the United Negro College Fund.

* He donated all the money he received from his Pepsi endorsements -- $1.5 million -- to the Michael Jackson Burn Center for Children at Brotman Medical Center in Culver City. Jackson had been treated there when he was burned during the production of a Pepsi commercial.

* Before a concert at Wembley Stadium in 1988, Michael met with Prince Charles and Princess Diana, handing over checks totaling more than $400,000 for the Prince's Trust and a children's hospital.

* He founded the Heal the World Foundation to fight illness and poverty among children around the world.

* He boldly joined Ryan White -- a boy who was infected with HIV by contaminated blood transfusions, in his fight against the discrimination of those with AIDS -- at a time of great fear and dread over the AIDS epidemic. In 1993, Jackson was one of the stars to perform at Bill Clinton's presidential inauguration. Before he sang "Gone Too Soon," he talked about the plight of those with AIDS and mentioned Ryan, who died of the disease in 1990.

Seven years later, the Guinness Book of World Records cited Jackson for holding the world record for the "Most Charities Supported by a Pop Star." It's unclear how much Jackson had donated over the years, but some estimates put the number at more than $500 million."

Do your homework before you babble.

Good post, Boatbuoy.

Jackson was a very complicated person. Trying to figure out if he was a good person or a bad person is hard, because it appears that there is truth in both.

He was what he was and, in time, this will all die down. About the worst of it, is that we will all have to suffer fron cheesy MJ impersonators, who make their living at county fairs and dive bars. All of the Elvis impersonators just got a bit of competition.

Re: Michael Jackson?

Well, I actually liked him, still like a lot of his music, & considered him very talented in the beginning, and so did my kids, that is until things got bizarre! but, I couldn't turn on the TV yesterday for news and weather at anytime, without being slammed with constant coverage about him, it just got old fast! My wife is a firm believer that he was a pedophile, and paid everyone off, but who knows? I don't, and I reserve judgement myself.

1. a well adjusted mature man doesn't invite children into his bed except for hideous reason.

2. he did pay out some rather large settlements to keep people quiet.

those are known facts.

when those children grow up they will speak out about what he did, the settlements can only keep the parents quiet.

Thanks jonesq, those are indisputible facts!

No indisputable facts, just what you've heard or read from the "mainstream media" for which you have such disdain. Knowing how they are, they're probably sensationalizing anyway.

Oh, yea, I'm glad you reserve your judgement.

Go figure, yeah, as I think about it, jonesq is right, the facts are he paid people off to keep quiet, and he did take little kids to bed with him, what's disputable?!

What really turned me off, was one song I saw him do on TV a few yrs ago, where he was singing, & dancing, while bumping, & grinding, and holding his crotch through the whole song! I thought it was the most vulgar thing I ever saw  and to think they banned Elvis yrs ago for shaking his hips

Sorry jonesg but MJ reasons for sleeping with children is not known by me or (I'm willing to surmise) by you. So stating that it is for "hideous reason" is speculation on your part and not what I would call a fact.

I do remember seeing an interview in which MJ claimed that his motivations for sleeping with kids were innocent. What the truth is, I don't know.
