Michigan Wheel Prop question

Hello,
I just got my new prop. Well its used but in like new condition via Ebay. I mean no nicks, dings or anything like that.

I had a thread earlier about which prop to get for my dancer and I decided to try a OEM prop. 15.25x15p.

So I get the prop and like I said it looks great. Guy said it was used as a spare once.

Here is where my question comes in. This prop is made by Michigan wheel and has a pressed in hub. Which is fine with me because I know Michigan wheel still makes pressed in hub props and props for hub kits.

So I gran the prop to look everything over and I noticed that the piece thats in the middle ( I dont know a tech term for it but it would be the center part where the exhaust comes out) Anyway I noticed its 2 piece. Main part is part of the prop cast and the piece that moves a little is the piece that extends it. It moved a little in and out but I cant remove it or should I say its not falling off. It just wiggles a little. I will include a pic. I think the part is called Diffuser Ring.So is this normal or is this prop shot.

Re: Michigan Wheel Prop question

I have never seen one that moves. I believe it should be attached firmly.

Yes it should be firmly attached. I never saw a Merc style like this loose. I have seen numerous OMC diffusers knocked off as they were of a different design and their diffuser had a wide diameter and was designed to bring water into the exhaust whereas Merc, like this one, is designed to flare out. Obviously the original OMC design was easily hit by debris and hence knocked off. Do not know what effect this had on the props ability to run without ventilating form exhaust being sucked up by the prop which is their purpose. Might get some JB weld and glue it back into position where it belongs.
