Hi this is my first post. I have this old boat which I`m doing some work on and I was hoping for some opinions. What do you guys think of this boat is it worth doing up ? Am I going the right way about it if you think its worth the work. I`ll be very grateful with any help. Thanks I plan to do some day fishing with the boat if i get it running.

What do you think Opps, looks like a job for Simple Green to me. If the foam isn't water logged then leave it right? Cool boat, I'd spend my time making that cabin into a nice warm place to hide while out bottom fishing off shore.

Re: microplus 571

That's probably the best boat Microplus made-and the best looking one I'v seen in a LONG time.

Don't mess with the floor if you can help it-they had a habit of using balsa sandwiched between GRP when laying up and if you get water into it you're in trouble as the hull goes soft and it's more trouble to fix than the boat will ever be worth.

If it's OK, just git'er out and use her!

Re: microplus 571

tough to tell from the little i can see on the pics.....but it looks like there has been a fair amount of moisture below decks.

in pic 3 it looks like the deck it self is wet at the core......how does the deck feel in that spot? is it soft?

as far the foam....i didnt see any on there if you know of an area that has some ......take a core sample and look for moisture.......you might want to consider taking stringer /transom core samples as well.

if all checks out......go fishing !

Re: microplus 571

Thats how floor looked when I got the boat, holes had been cut for bilge pumps. I just cut a bigger hole 2 have a better look. I`ll do that drill test oops just to make sure. Plenty of moisture in that photo oops I had the covers off and it rained down.

Re: microplus 571

I think it cleaned up really well, Opps can tell you more about the glass, I'm a tinny guy. I don't see anything that would make me walk away from a buy. Nice job on the clean up... Now go get them heaters and we'll go after some bottom fish.

Re: microplus 571

ok.....where do i start......first of all....sorry i was away for a few days,

wrecks......i thought that boat looked a little too "clean"
from what i can see in the pics......i believe you boat has been totally restored.
(thats a good......great thing)....the two "repair" pics are of a stringer sistering attempt in the forward bow area......they used enough glass on there not to worry about it much.....i however, would do a core sample in that area, and some farther back.

that bilge pump set up is about the worst ive seen before......it was put there because at one time the hull leaked, ant the water ran between the hull and the deck where the foam used to be.
thats why the bilge pump is cut into the deck.
id check that and make sure the leak was gone

in post 13 middle pic......see that thin space there......that aint stock....its sooo tough to tell what and and where we are looking at but over all bud......it looks really really good.

any problem areas that you have questions about?

cheers
oops

Re: microplus 571

I want to repair this hole but don`t know how to go about it. The deck is made of GRP. I wont be fixing it for awhile yet, I`ll leave as it is until I get the boat into the water and make sure there is no leak in the hull. After I`ve checked this I want to repair the hole. So how to go about it ?

Once the weather will allow me to paint her, all the rest should move pretty quick. Weather man called for rain this weekend but it didn't, was off Friday and could have had it done by now  Anyway enough about my issues this is your thread, how long do you think it will take you to get er right & what size OB is that?
