Each time I boot my computer Windows installer tries to load a program called photo gallery. I do not own photo gallery and can not figure out where it is coming up with this. How do I stop Windows installer from preforming this task.

Thanks in advance.
Larry

It may be in disguise...what you can do is look at the list of stuff that is shown there...eleminate the obvious ones that you KNOW are ok...anything else...hop on google and do a search for the name of each...Eventually you will find the one that is running the photogallery software. You can then remove it from the Startup section and see if it doesn't affect anything else.

-JMW

it sound more like its trying to install it or you would not really notice it on start up.

you can also look under add/remove programs and see if its sitting there

you can try sypbot or other spyware programs to try and find it if you dont see it anywere

tommays

The only stuff that needs to load at startup are your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, all the other stuff just slows down your boot time.

Found it. Was part of the driver set for a HP printer. I did not load the photo software. I guess they want you to run it so they cause this problem for you. The funny thing is they call the program by two names.

Thanks for all the help.
Larry

Xcusme, your like a gold mine for software. That's a few times now that you've linked to a really helpful item. Any more tools for system analysis/clean-up you're keeping to yourself? Keep 'em coming.

Re: Microsoft XP Windows installer

There are a few tools available on-line that can make your life much easier, for sure. There are some tools, if not used properly, can and will trash your system in a heartbeat. Take registry cleaners for example. I have a version that is a killer at cleaning trash 'outta the registry. Even after running conventional cleaners and so called "fix-it utilities", it still finds tons of extraneous data that can be removed. Most of the conventional cleaners take a more conservative approach at doing their thing. The one I turn to when things really get dicey is not to be used without reading the entire users manual. It's pretty much of a must to have a basic understanding of the Windows registry before it's run. In the right hands , it's a great tool, in the wrong hands, ...well, you get the idea.

As always, if someone has a problem and I have a fix, I'll post a link and they're welcome to give it a try. :)
