OK, I've gotta ask. Has anyone actually pull started one of those 75's when it's stone cold? That'd be crazy! And there's no compression relief on em!

Also, Evinrude Boater, where the heck is Lakeside that you're warm? It was well below freezing up here in Ottawa today! I can only have fond warm memories of my trip to Florida last week cause it sure ain't boating weather up here!

OK, so I may be crazy, but I've pull started them. It isn't hard. At least it isn't on a motor that runs good.

Sam, I used to pull start my Fat-Fifty (70.7 Cu In), rather easily. I used a two hand straight pull to my chest.

I've started my 75hp by hand from cold. No more than 3 pulls, usually one pull does it.
Samo, it was September last year when I said it was warm in Lakeside. It looks pretty much like Ottawa here today although I was running my 5hp in a garbage can on the driveway last weekend.

Das fisch, I think your motor runs on 24:1 fuel mixture. It wouldn't hurt it anyways.

so i dug into the motor tonight. motor turns over with the help of a batter, everything's free, put in gear prop spins, drained the lower unit and it was not just black but BLACK. don't think it was ever changed out. have a neutral switch on the way.
all i had was a car battery here, with that i got the motor to spin, but very slowly. i'm hoping this is just a symptom of running this battery vs. a deep cycle. any thoughts. don't really know where to start with this one.
thinking of finding someone around to go thru it and get it up and running so i can concentrate on the glass work. i'm in southern Maine, anyone know of a good mechanic around here who's fairly priced. can't spend too much on this, if it adds up i'd probably just look for a new/used one.

A car battery and a marine starting battery are virtually the same when it comes to cranking that motor. You slow spinning starter is therefore likely due to dirty or corroded battery cables or connections or a dirty or bad starter.

The starter may need rebuilding and cleaning, yes the cables could be bad and the engine just may need to get lubed and loosened up. That's why I would recommend more oil that normal to get all bearings well lubed.

Evindrude, possible you could take some pics of the mounting bracket for the neutral safety switch for me. got one last night, the noticed i'm missing the mounting bracket as well. if i had a source i'd buy one, and if i have pics i could probably fabricate one up. thanks

Here you go. It bolts to the distributor bracket shown in the exploded parts diagram I posted earlier.
