We have a 21' Pro-line with a Evinrude 150 on the back. I believe the engine is a '89. We are having troubles with the tilt assembly. I think it just needs a new motor which isn't so bad but if it needs a whole new assebly it could cost us more then the engine is worth. This would prompt us to start looking for a new motor.

Two Questions..

The 150 on it pushes the boat along just fine for me, at about 5000-5500 rpms I'm doing perhaps 25-28 mph.
Now if I go looking for a new motor I'd like a 4-stroke. Do you think a 125 would be too small? Whats the smallest size that I should be looking at for a 21' boat?

Also is there a good resource for outboard engine research? One that compares the different engines; prices, performace ect.

$ is of course an object. and I'd like to get the most for my $. I'm thinking $6k tops for a used 150. perhaps a 96-98. I'd like to spend less but unsure about the motors that aren't well known.
