There are several two plus year old threads that have been resurrected by a new member and have received responses from some not so new members. No skin off my nose of course, just thought I'd mention it. Apparently it creates extra work for someone, because it's a contentious issue in some of the sections; of course we tooners don't get wound up like the rest of the guys.:p:cool:

Re: Might Want to Check the Date Before You Respond

As I am pretty new here there is a good chance that was me.
Sorry.

Thanks for the tip and I will keep it in mind in the future even if it wasn't me.

Thanks

Nope, wasn't you. It's funny; in the other sections when someone resurrects a thread he is sure to get hammered. They even created a sticky about it in Outboards and it's been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere. Over here no one even seems to care, myself included. Just didn't want anyone to catch any grief. Like I said, we're a different breed.;)

I'm probably guilty.
So much for making a good first impression:(
Thanks for your understanding.

You bring up a good point. See a lot of people get yelled at for posting new posts that are the same old post everyday like "what size prop" and "how fast" and it seems like they get yelled at for it. However, if someone wants some new answers they would go this route and resurrect an older post. So in conclusion everyone's just getting yelled at anyways lol

Ha! Just like at my house! We don't do a lot of yellin' over here in Pontoons unless somebody wants us to tell him it's a good idea to exceed his boat's hp rating by 178%.

Way too funny.

I think I have been known to post to an old one as well---just not looking at the dates beforehand and seeing a current post and going with it:facepalm:

Being a new guy here, all the threads are new to me.
If I see an older thread of interest, and would like additional information, should I resurrect the old thread, or start a new one.
It would seem having the information in s single thread would be less confusing than having it spread out over several, and possibly repetitive, threads.

A little guidance please, I don't want to, uh, make waves, as they say:D

Relax guys. Didn't mean to scare ya. You're unlikely to make any waves in the Pontoon section. Nice little double entendre by the way.;) Generally speaking I think your best bet is to use the search function first, then if you don't get the info you need start a new thread. The thing about message boards is the majority of the posters don't stick around once they either resolve their issues or give up, so responding to their old threads is unlikely to yield satisfactory results. Hope that helps.

Re: Might Want to Check the Date Before You Respond

Yes I have done that. I didnt see the date on the thread, and responded to it, then tried to post a link to help, and the MODS locked it out on me!!!:D I was really excited too because it was something that I had an answer to, and nobody had posted anything to it yet. I thought that I was gonna be a help to someone, only to get locked out!
Oh well, I tried and I think that I have learned about that now!!!

If this is such a big issue, why don't the mods lock the threads after 3 months or 6 months.

Probably because the original posters sometimes return to let us know they resolved their issues or have additional questions. Also, think about what a burden that would be on the mods. Welcome aboard.

I had a problem with my gas guage ( a bad ground wire and an electrical noobie trying to fix it ) and recieved a lot of help from a certain person. I finally got it fixed and PM'd him to thank him for his help ( and patience ).

He replied that he hardly gets any replies regarding fixed problems. That's sad that somebody can't take a minute to thank somebody who helped them.

Re: Might Want to Check the Date Before You Respond

Posting to old threads is also against the forum rules, here is an excerpt from the FORUM RULES

12. Please do not post to threads that have been inactive for more than 3 months UN-LESS you are the original poster. This is a very active forum and any thread that remains inactive for that long should be considered "dead". It is especially confusing when there is an entirely new question posted to an old thread. This is considered a hijack. Please start a new thread of your own.
