Hi all,

I have this 11 ft. whaler I've been toying with for a while now. It's on cape cod and I only get to it maybe once or twice a year for a few days. Last week I was able to finally refinish the bench seat and replace the side panels that hold the bench in place. I've not been happy with the way I had originally fitted steering controls so was thinking of trying something new. Has anyone managed to mount steering in the front corner where this wheel is sitting? It seems like it would fit the cable length. Then I could sit on the bench. Previously I had it mounted to the bench and the operator would sit on the rear-most surface.

I would consider mounting some actual seats, but not sure what would work. Would be really great if I could find some bolt in seats and console. But I also don't want to put a bunch of holes in the boat unless I'm sure it will be permanent. The boat is in reasonably decent original condition and I don't want to destroy its character.

Is this an 11 footer?
His was a 13, much more boat. Heres an 11 with a console added, seems a little weight forward to me, may duck dive in the rough.

heres an 11 with the center bench not there, and a console driven from the rear bench.

whatever you decide, be careful with any holes cut, Breaching the foam core of a whaler is the number one cause of death.

I think I'm going to try a new console on the bench. I'm trying to manage existing cables which are a bit long which had me thinking of moving forward like the red one. Probably a dumb idea since the motor is also a pull cord start so I wouldn't be able to reach it.

Thanks for all the suggestions and pics!
