I have a 1988 350 magnum engine with a alpha one outdrive and splashed the boat this weekend. Had a faint click/clack sound and opened the engine cover and saw about one inch above where the driveshaft goes thru the transom on a piece of metal which looks like part of the transom mount two drops of milk white fluid. I know that can't be good. Any guesses? I think it's beyond my repair level would would like to have an idea before bringing it in for service.

As a new boater I have some questions regarding service.
a)Do i take the boat under it's own power to marina or is it necessary to trailer it?
b) Does a mechanic come out and test drive the boat like in a car?
c)Will they estimate cost of repairs beforehand? save old parts for customer?
Any other tips to be help find good honest repair work?
I've walked into my local marinas and see the owners at their desk wearing real Polo shirts and very expensive watches, makes you kinda wonder.
Thanks

Possible it is water in the gear lube.
The best bet is to trailer it to the shop and have the drive pulled, bellows inspected and everything checked over.
