Milky Caramel Brown

On my little 15HP Merc 2 stroke, I'm getting a milky caramel brown flow coming out of the two little exhaust holes above the waterline. What can be the cause of this? Is water getting into the engine? This is more noticeable when running it with the choke. Thanks for your help!

That sounds like unburned fuel mixture coming down the exhaust tude, ck the gear case for contamanation if its aright it has to be unburned fuel--Bob

If you have to run it with the choke, time to tear down the carb and clean it. That's raw fuel you're adding to the waters you're operating in.

The motor runs great, don't need to pull the choke except to start it when it's cold. I just forgot to push it back in when I was flushing the motor. <br /><br />Laddie, when you say the gear case, are you talking about the lower unit oil? Last year I did notice the same color coming out of my lower unit.

Laddie is talking about when you use your motor to troll or run at low speed, there is a build up or unburnt fuel/2stroke that leaks out of the exhaust. It needs a good WOT run regularly to blow the cobwebs out.<br />If it has a thru-prop exhaust, you will also see the gunk there. Gear oil has a distinctive pungeant smell, whereas this stuff will smell like fuel.
