milky oil

I just got a bayliner 2001 with a 3.0 in it. Not knowing the oil weight I put 10-30 four stroke outboard marine grade oil in it. Ran great was having problems starting on water engine popped and now sounds funny, sound doesn't change with throttle. Sounds almost like bad barrings alt and water pump are fine. sounds like motor is sitting on fiberglass vibrating boat but mounts look good. metal metal sound the oil is milky.

Is there water in oil? Or did the oil weight damage something. Air temp 60. water temp 50. Do I need to take it in?

here is a pic of oil maybe 2 hrs of runtime after oil change

I don't know, I can't see it. Pull the dipstick and look at it, is it milky.

Also, make sure it's not overfull. If you put too much oil in it, the crank will hit the oil and aireate it, which will cause the lifters to rattle and the valves not open properly.
The wrong weight of oil will not cause water in the oil.

Change the oil and filter. You can use Pennzoil 30 weight HD sold at Walmart.
It does not need to be marine oil.
Run the motor again and if the oil turns milky again then you have problems..

The shaking and vibrating is not due to what type of oil you used.
Sounds like freeze damage from not being winterized properly to me but just a guess at this point.

Re: milky oil

Best bet would be to have a mechanic look at it.Do a compression and leak down test on the cylinders. That will show a bad head gasket.

Re: milky oil

Took it to mechanic, must have got flooded and got fuel in the oil. The metal Metal sound was bearings. I believe the gimbal bearings. I think i'm going to tear into it my-self they charge 95 and hour and estimated it at 2000.00. Must be pretty proud of there work. I'm pretty mechanical has anyone done thiis to tell me if it is possible for the average joe.

AND you need to get and read the manuals.

I also had this problem. Thought I had an engine full of water, turned out to be fuel. No clue what the previous owner did to fill it up other than pump the bajeezus out of it when it wouldn't start (wet points). Took 3 oil changes to fix it.
