Millions of questions, assembling outdrive

Ok,, here's my first of many questions,, A 1985 merc. I-MR outdrive with a 120 hp. motor. I bought a Merc. gimbal bearing,, after getting my old one out,, and comparing,, the new one has no hole in the outside diameter,, I am assuming it is the newer "permalube" type ??

yep, the "non-servicable" gimbal bearing

don't know why they went to this

maybe people were having a hard time lining up the grease hole??
