i bought my son a bass boat with an all terrain minn cota 40lb thrust trolling motor. I found that the black and red wires go to the batteries and have clips on them for the batteries. However, there is also an orange wire that has been clipped and disconnected. what is this supposed to be connected to. I did not get a wiring schematic with the boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: minn cota

It's used for 12/24V installations rb. If your running just straight 12V, leave it, not hurting anything.

Re: minn cota

My Minn Kota has the red, black and the yellow wire is capped. I cannot find a manual for it, and i thopught it was only 24v. Is it possible that this motor could also be 12 or 24? Its a turbo pro 524? 48lbs thrust. i think..

Re: minn cota

Check the foot pedal. There is probably a switch on it labeled 12/24. The red and black wires are for 24V operation and you would need two batteries in series for that mode. The orange wire is for 12V operation. If you want both modes, that orange wire needs to be connected. If not, you need to determine which mode you want to run all the time. It boils down to one battery or two. One battery = 12V only = use orange and black. 24V only = two batteries = red and black.
