I have a Minn Kota 220 two bank Charger that came with a boat I just bought. Wiring described in manual is red wire to (pos battery post) and black wire to (neg. battery post. The actual Charger has White and Black wire for hook up to battery plus a 30 amp AGX in-line fuse which blows. My question is which is the positive battery connection with this color combination. The Service guys used the white as pos and black as neg. But this combo blows the fuse and reads negative on my tester. if I reverse so Black is pos and white is neg I get into the green on the tester am I right or is something else wrong? Any help appreciated. Thanks Johnny7

Re: Minn Kota 220 two Bank charger wiring issue

The fuse is normally in the POSITIVE lead on the charger. Whatever color that wire is goes to the POS terminal on the battery. Otherwise use your meter to determine which is which. Connect the meter leads to the charger leads. If the meter wants to read negative (digital) or backwards (analog). Switch the leads. If it now reads correctly, whichever charger lead the red test lead is on is the POSITIVE output..

Thanks for confirming the results of my test. The black wire is the positive and the white is the negative since I get a positive result when hooked up to the charger with the tester. Johnny7
