Minn Kota 565

Good evening fellow boaters. It's been awhile since I have last posted and am in need of some assistance. I have an '88 Minn Kota 565 bow mount trolling motor that quit yesterday. I believe I have traced the problem back to the 5 speed switch on the foot controll. I have found a switch thanks to trollingmotorparts.com but am in need of a full wiring diagram for that unit. Perhaps someone will be able to assist me with this. Thanks for any help and great boating to you all...........jg

Have you tested the switch with a multimeter? I don't know about the wiring diagram, but i am an electrician and i would think that it would be pretty simple.

Thanks for the reply. I have tested voltage and cont. with a meter up to the switch. When I get to that particular point I'm not sure which wires are for what purpose. It appears that the power stops at the switch. I get power up to that point. I show continuity on about all the terminals (7 in all) but without knowing where they are going to or coming from it's not helping me much. I am not an electrician and much of my testing is proving to be speculation. I do know I have power to the foot control mom/off/con switch, as well as the micro switch on the pedal. It just seems to stop at the 5 way. <br /><br />jg

You can test the switch in particular by switcthing your meter to the ohms setting. As you turn the switch, if your meter reads ol(overload) and does not change as you switch the dial, then this will tell you if the switch is bad.

I will give that a try. I am using an analog meter and I think that the ohm readings should increase as the dial moves from speeds 1 through 5. Meanwhile, still looking for a wiring diagram. Anyone got such an item?<br /><br />Thanks.....<br /><br />jg
