Minn Kota 765MX

I was given a Minn Kota 765 MX and the foot pedal is missing. I have searched eBay and can't find one. I purchased one with the same flat plug but everytime I plug it in and hit the pedal all that happens is some clicking noises. Is there a way to wire this pedal to work with this old motor or run it without the pedal ? Please help !

First things first...

:welcome:to iboats. Glad you decided to joins us here...

Now for your trolling motor issues. You stated you got a Minn Kota 765MX. Did th eperson you got the trolling motor from tell you if it worked or not?

Second, the foot controller you got, was it a good working unit as well? I ask these questions to try and narrow down where the problem(s) could be. If both the trolling motor section and the foot controller are known good units, then we need to figure out where the disconnect begins. You say all it does is make clicking noise. Where is that clicking noise coming from, the foot section or head unit?

And post a picture or three for us to see what you are dealing with...

Thank you for responding. I am pretty sure the foot pedal is good. Not sure about the motor. The clicking is coming from the upper section of the base where the wires for the battery come in and the plug comes in. Here are some pictures.

I opened the box where the clicking is occuring and these are some pictures. There are also 3 unconnected wires (in the clear tubes).

SO if I am understanding correctly, the clicking isn't in teh foot section but in the head unit with the motor. If that is so, then you are communicating with the head unit but not to the motor. Can you apply power directly to the motor wires going to the motor? Disconnect the wires going to the actual motor and see if you can make the motor spin. If you can, then you have a problem from the repay to the motor. The clicking sound is the relay and that tells me you are controlling that relay but the relay is not allowing power to the motor. Hard to say without being there and testing things for myself.

Question. Is there a sensor that indicates if the motor is in the water ? Just wondering if that might be the case as I have been trying to check this out of water. Thanks.

Could be. I never worked with that trolling motor, so worth a try. Use a trash can with some water in it to see if that satisfies the sensor. Let us know...

So I jumped the motor power to the battery and got the motor to run. I think I dont have the right foot pedal. Thinking about opening up the foot pedal and make sure the wires match the plug on the motor. Thanks for the help.

If the "clicking sound" is coming from the head section with the motor connected below, then the foot section is talking to the head section. Could be that the relay (what I am thinking is the clicking sounds you talked about) is working but not passing the power to the motor. So the foot controller may not be the problem. Just my opinion...
