Running rough (jumpy, jerky) and noisy in the water, but smooth and quiet out of the water. Condition is same for any of the 5 speed selections, handle extended or retracted. I have checked for monofilament around shaft and external connections. Could it be brushes or bearings that are being affected by the increased load of the prop through the water?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Minn Kota Endura 40 - rough, intermittent

All newer Minn Kota motors have a composite brush holder. This also supports the bearing end of the armature to keep it in line with the magnetic fields. If you have possibly dropped or hit the prop end pushing it directly backwards towards the motor you could have broken the brush holder. Also if you lay the motor on its side and remove the prop you will see two connecting bolt heads. These are 5/16 inch. There will be one at 12 o-clock and one at 6 o-clock. Take out the one at 6 and see if there is any water or corrosion on the bolt. If there is, you could service it yourself or take it to a trolling motor repair shop. There is not a lot of tolerance in these motors so a little play in alignment can cause a lot of issues. If you decide to look into it further take out the other bolt and the motor will come apart. You should be abble to see the problem ounce you have it apart. Look for anything rubbing against another part. You should be able to see the problem. Reassemble in reverse order(with new parts) and you should be fine. Post another message if you are having problems
