I purchased a MinnKota power drive with the 18 ft. wire so you can operste from front or back of the boat. Now I see they have a hand held controller that works with batteries. My question is, I also saw now they have a foot controller that works the same way. Takes 4 AA batteries and no wires. What does anyone know about them? How do they work? Are there problems with them? ETC.

It's called the Co-Pilot and can be added to the newer PowerDrive motors. You can also get what's called a corded Co-pilot. If you run all over the boat when fishing, this may be just the thing for you. However, you have a fishing rod in one hand and you are cranking with the other. You have to stop doing something to push a button.

No...this one is the foot controlled copilot. Not the hand held. it's a foot control with no wires.

Same principle. Its a transmitter. More convenient than the hand held but expect delayed response. When you step on the control, that action needs to be interpreted by the receiver in the motor so there is a delay. It isn't much, but I've used similar systems and it can be annoying.
