Minn Kota Riptide 55 lb. gears?

I have a Minn Kota Riptide with a 55 lb. thrust hooked up to a 12V battery. The motor has forward speeds 1 through 5 and reverse speeds 1-3 (I think). Recently, I noticed the motor was not getting as much thrust on five and figured out that I only have speeds 1 through three in forward, and speed 1 in reverse. I contacted a Minn Kota dealer and they just said bring it in but I know some of those places can charge mucho $$$, any ideas?<br /><br />Thanks<br />Kevin

Minn Kota has always had a reputation for helping folks Kevin. Give them a call and see if they will send you a parts break down for the motor. Parts (at least for the older motors) are fairly inexpensive. Some electronic boards can be on the high side though.

I'm not positive, but I think that motor uses "speed coils" (wire-wound resistors) to control speeds. One or more of them apparently have gone south!
