Minn Kota shaft lengthening question

Wondering if anybody on here has ever replaced a shaft on a Minn Kota Maxxum, the current shaft is only 42" I want to change the shaft out to a a longer shaft and am wondering if any of you guys have done this before.<br />Thanks <br />Jamie

Not a real big deal Jamie. The only thing to worry about is lengthening the leads to the motor. The tube can be a pain to get out of the motor head though. The new tubes are fiber composit tubes and usually end up breaking before you can get them out...even with heat. <br /><br />If you follow through with the project, clean the threads in the motor head real good and coat the new tube threads with a sealer to prevent water intrusion into the motor head.<br /><br />The folks at MinnKota are good work with and if you ask nice, they might send you a parts break down for your model. It will help with taking it apart and re-assembly.

OBJ-I have another question, do I just have to replace the bottom shaft section, I think part #22 or do I have to replace both of the sections. Also Debbie at Minn Kota said I am going to have readjust everytime I pull it out of the water because the 42" mounts are shorter than the 52 and 62. Any suggestions there?

I'll have to check the parts list mt....most times just the lower tube is replaced. Could be exceptions though. What's the model and year of the motor? And yes...the bow mounts for the 42's are shorter....so...after a day on the water you would have to readjust the motor on the mount for trailering. Really no way around that part 'cept for a longer mount. They are pricey.
