Minn Kota Steering Problem

I have a 55AT Minn Kota that I'm having trouble keeping on a straight course with the foot control; it seems to swing the boat back and forth. I ratcheted down the tension screw on the foot control so that the cable is reasonably taut but it still whips around and won't go straight.

Is there any other adjustment I might try? Are the hex-headed screws/bolts on the shaft collar involved in any way?

Just a thought, but on my 40PD you need to make sure that the collars match up when you lower the motor into the water. If not it just spins around.

A 55AT is a cable steer not a power drive. No collar to line up. There should be a tension adjustment on the motor. Try MinnKota tech support as they are very helpful. Check their web site for on-line manuals if you don't have one.

Is it turning when you activate the motor? If it is, mine was doing the same thing, I had to crank the adjustment screw on the foot control down tight to stop it. But it works fine after that.
