Ifish . . .
And by the way, the question you asked about the mounting position of a bow mount was a good one because I've always used a transom unit and I always wondered if I went up to a bow mount unit with my other boat how would it be mounted. I never wanted to give up the front deck space.

The boats I've used which had the foot controlled bow mount were not mine, so I never really concentrated on how they were mounted exactly.

But after I use the one below on my daughter's rig, I'll probably be hooked.

Below I posted the mounting pics you asked for. I'm glad I took them because I think I was steered into ordering the wrong bracket for my situation. No ones fault. But I need to use it with a trailerable cover that came with the boat but the previous owner never used it because it didn't fit over the bow mounted troller so he kept it garaged (even better :D)

It looks to Me that overhang is going to force me to bring the cover to my canvas guy and he will have to alter it to fit over the overhang of the bottom part of the bracket I just ordered that is left on the boat after I remove the motor.

I will have to weigh out how much he will charge to alter the cover to fit against getting the other Minn Kota bracket that just leaves a puck on the deck. See picture. See how only the small square composite puck is left on the deck:

Others have said the bracket I ordered is better because it's all aluminum but I'm not worried about a thief stealing the puck when the motors not on the boat. I'm sure for $70 plus the other bracket is strong too.

Expedia:

The motor is designed to be rotated by 90 degrees (propeller shaft horizontal, not vertical). The round housing matches the dip in the cradle. Less modification in the boat cover that way, plus the motor is more stable.

I don't think he is going to leave the motor on on the trailer for security I think he thinks the plate that is left behind after he removes the motor will stick out that far I don't think it will stick out that far maybe a little

Re: Minn Kota V2 powerdrive

Thx for the feedback. I knew the motor housing was upright. I just left it the way it was when I picked the boat up. I put a bungie on it to keep it from bouncing around and drove home that way.

I just read this review on the 2nd bracket (the composite one) I was thinking about. It was not good.

reviewer: I received this bracket free with my Minn Kota V2-68 Pontoon trolling motor. It's a great idea, is easy to mount with 4 bolts (included) and is easy to use. The problem is that it isn't fully stable. When I crank up my trolling motor to full speed, I get vibration, particularly when I am trying to turn. The only way to eliminate the vibration is to reduce throttle or to go "straight" (which still leaves a hint of vibration) As we use our pontoon boat as a party boat and as a fishing rig, the easy removal of the trolling motor is probably more important than having to reduce throttle - so I expect to continue to use it. I'm disappointed that the quality of the bracket isn't as good as the trolling motor..

Expidia: So I'm staying with the aluminum model for $39 from iboats and I don't think it's going to hang over the edge that much. I'll report back when I mount it.

If it's the same bracket as the one on Amazon, iBoats sells the same one for about $20 cheaper too!

Now I see why from that review why Minn Kota offers an adapter bracket to be bought for extra along with their composite bracket:
http://www.amazon.com/MKA-22-ADAPTE..._2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1244424486&sr=8-2

They say it's to align the holes from previous mounted motors . . But my guess is they saw a design flaw as the reviewer noted that the locking pin can be too close to the carpet for insertion, so they want you to pay like $38 for the adapter which raises up the platform off the carpet so you can push the pin in.
I love the way their customer service tech's want the consumer to drill and enlarge the holes in the composite material if the pins go in to tight . . Oh ya, I'll be doing that to correct their 2nd design flaw with this $70-100 (plus the adapter)unit. Glad I saw that review. I'll stick with the aluminum one.

.

Believe it or not it's been raining here on and off for 10 days now so I have not had a chance to test drive it yet.

It will be interesting to see how the boat tracks not that I put on the wquinck release plate. I know they want you to mount it as close to the center line as possible but I went a few degrees off from where the previous owner had it mounted. I prefer to not have a big section of the bottom plate hanging off the edge when the motor is off the boat. It fits fine now with the trailable cover without any alterations.

Now to see if I'll have to keep compensating for the boat pulling at an angle. I think it will be OK where it is. If I have to I'll just have to move it, but it's pretty close to where is was. I'll take some more pics of the latest mounting when I get it on the river again.

And congrats on your craigslist purchase of the powerdrive. I love craigs list. We just found the new boat (1999) that came with the 2 yr old powerdrive on craigslist. I had to drive 2 hours each way to get it, but I would have driven a lot further for a well taken care of 10 year old rig.

I'm in the market for a second rig that I'll mostly keep in different marinas on different lakes each year. I expect to have to drive to the great lakes to find the used model I'm looking for and that will be 18 hours each way for me.
I'll still keep the Lund for trailering to different areas.
