Minnkota Edge speed problems

HELP I have a MinnKota Edge 55 ,5 speed foot controlled;
speed 1,2 and 5 seem ok but speeds 3 and 4 are slower than speed 2 so its either idle or wide open basiclly
I ordered a new speed switch and replaced it just know thinking it was bad but it still does the same thing
Does anyone have an idea on what would cause this or seen it before

I had a similar problem with my Edge trolling motor. I found a wire under the foot control chafing into one of the terminals. I repaired the wire and rerouted it to prevent further chafing and have not had any more problems. Hope this helps.

Do you recall what this wire was going to .I looked and don't see any think wrong with the wires .
I just put new ends on my wires running at the battery and that did'nt help .

It was one of the wires that connects to the speed control in the foot unit. It was chafing on one of the other terminals. I didn't notice it until I moved it and saw a small cut in the insulation.
