I am looking for a new trolling motor for my 12' glass boat. I am looking at minnkota's power-dive 40-48. I have never used the electronic style steering. Is it as reliable as the cable style? The reason I ask is because it comes with a long cable so I can mount if on the front and steer from the back, and does the maximizer technology really make a difference run time?

Re: minnkota's power-dive ?

b.,

I have a PD50 and have been very pleased. It seems from some posts here that the older models were a bit slow in response time but I have been happy with the control I have. I often fish in heavy wind or current and have had no difficulty in maintaining boat position. I also get 6+ hours at near max speed with 2 Interstate size 27 deep cycles at 12 volts. I believe battery maintenance is most important and there is a lot of good advice here.

Re: minnkota's power-dive ?

I've owned a AP 65 for over two years now. Had problems early on with the circuit board relating to the auto-pilot which was replaced under warranty. Last year I added the co-pilot cordless remotes. Had one of those replaced too, under warranty. These little jewels are wonderful! After a little practice they're as easy to use as the keyless entry to your car/truck. Best invention since the trolling motor. I have two remotes with remote holders on most of my rods. I just move them as needed.

I've had three MKs with power drive. None gave me any trouble at all.
