Minor Engine Reving

I noticed the last 2 times I ran my engine on the hose after taking the boat out that the engine will rev up to near 2k RPMS then back down to 750 or so. It does not stay there for long, maybe stays above 1,000 RPMS for about 10-15 sec before dipping back down. But it will do this a couple of times over the course of 5 min while I run it on the hose.
It is a 2006 4.3 L Mercruiser.
Any ideas of what I should look for? Or is that common?
Thanks in advance!

Do you have a serial number? Year isn't always accurate for marine engines. Is this an EFI or carbed engine, what drive.

Don,
I will have to check on the serial # when I get home...I do not believe it is carbed-it is 4.3L MPI (Honestly I do not know what the MPI stands for). Outdrive is Alpha 1

Ayuh,... It's MultiPort Fuel Injection...

You'll need to have a diagnostic computer run on it, to see what's wrong...
