1984 Evinrude 50 hp - Was cruising along and all of a sudden the engine cut out. Trolling motor got me back to the landing, got it home pulled the plugs and noticed one of the plugs had a little damage. Split the block and sure enough a broken skirt on the piston got sucked into the combustion chamber and must have dinged the electrode causing my motor to stall.
Inspected the piston noticed that the rings were shot, piston is trashed. But the cylinder walls show very minor scoring.
What would happen if I just ignored the scoring and dropped a new piston with rings in it?? Anything major besides minor loss of compression?? Would it cause any damage to the new rings??
