Went back to the lake this afternoon. Boat ran great when we put in. Tubed for 15 mins, then cruised for 10, then boat started missing.
Got really bad with a tuber.
My boat has the filter on top of the fuel pump. I decided to remove the filter. No fuel came out when I pulled the cover, and the filter wasnt dripping. No improvement.
Let boat sit and decided to check the points. They hadnt closed up, but I sanded them while I had it open.
Left engine covers open. Boat took 15 secs or so to fire, but then ran smooth.
Rode across the lake with the covers open, boat ran great. Closed the covers and told the wife it must be fixed.
Hadnt gone 200 yards and it started missing again.
So, Is it:
a)burning the points like the condenser is bad.
b)overheating and vapor locking
The Clymer manual said the early ones had a problem with vapor locking.
If so, how can if fix it.

Thanks ,
Rick Edwards

Re: Misfire update

After looking at vapor lock posts, I have to add that my motor will start as soon as I hit the key. So I guess its not vapor lock.
How about bad fuel pump. The semi dry fuel filter confuses me.
Rick

Is the temp getting to hot? When is the last time it was tuned up? How old is gas in the tank? What do the plugs look like? How is the dwell and timing? How is the other gas filter? Is there gas in the clear tube going from the carb to your fuel pump?

Ya, you may want to check the fuel pressure.

Re: Misfire update

Just found someone on another forum with the exact same symptoms. (Other than dry filter)
He fixed his by cleaning his main electrical plug.
Too bad its gonna rain here the next three days. I am anxious to try it out.
Rick
