mismatched motor

ok so i thought i had a 1979 evinrude 55 hp but just found out its a 60 hp. (i just bought the boat)
how could i find out what year the head is? i need 1 new carb.one is broke

numbers on the carb are 330503 and tthe tag says 396291a mx 14 b k thas al i know please help

whats the model# I don't believe they made a 60 hp in 79.

55975c. See what happend was the stock carbs don't match up with the ones I have.it has casting numbers on it.it looks like the 2 cylinder 60 hp 1985 carbs. I don't know what to do now lol.

where did you get that 5597, off the stern bracket- or the powerhead?

Why don't you just find a carb which matches the one that's bad? The part number should be written somewhere on the carb body itself.

There appears to be big pieces of the story missing. 60 hp instead of 55hp? Year of the head???? then it jumps to the carbs

I stated in the first post I was looking for a carb.and was wondering what year the head is.i know is not a 55 hp.its suppose to be a 60.thats what the guy I got it from just told me.

Sounds as though at some point someone swapped powerheads. Made a frankenmotor!

On the top of the powerhead there should be a small silver plug with numbers stamped into it. see if you can locate that plug and get the stamping numbers. The 60hp 2 cylinder was produced between 1980 thru 1985. The stamping for an Evinrude should begin with an E60---- and the Johnson will begin with a J60-----. The remaining numbers will determine the year.

The 60hp models used different part numbers for the upper and lower carbs also.

WOW this is strange~!

Posted the 1st response and got an error message, "Rules state must wait 15 seconds between posts" or sonething like that and then seen this response posted twice. Never seen this before!
