Missing carb part?

I have finally removed the upper carb (been to nasty cold) and when looking at the upper part noticed one of that the idle air bleed orifices is missing. Could this be normal, or would it have fallen out. If I have to get a new one, do they come in different sizes. The manual says # 42 but I am at 6000 ft. above sea level.
Also, how the heck do I remove the link between the two cams without breaking that cone shaped retainer.
Thank you,
John

Re: Missing carb part?

There was a thread a while back discussing jets at high altitudes, I beleive it reccomended using two sizes bigger or in your case a 44 for starters then experiment to see which gets the best performance. not a exact science at altitude.

As far as removing the nylon clips, very carefully, I have used PAM household cooking spray to lube them, it is a non petroleum based product so will not chemically damage the nylon like a lube oil can, let it sit a few minutes and then carefully try to remove assembly connectors.

Mind telling us what engine you are talking about, John?

I would strongly suggest that you find that missing jet. If your engine swallows it, you could have a much more serious problem.

It is a '98 j90tslec. I found the little bugger back by the reeds. I guess somebody was watching over me. I do not understand how it came loose! Should I use lock tite to put them back in. The other orifice looks as if a narrow bladed screwdriver formed a wedge in the center. They are a number 42 and I think I will order two new ones.

Don't use loc-tite. They should go in pretty snug and stay just fine. Chances are someone didn't snug them up properly after a rebuild.

The last time the carbs were done was in 2003 at a marina.

At the very least I'd shake my finger at them menacingly as I drove by.
