Re: Missing Gasket question

:D "pea brain and strange way"......we may be married to the same woman.

Well, I'm pretty certain that all this gunk didn't come from where I greased the plate......I would have never used that much grease on something like that. My motor was still running when I brought it in the shop, but I'm not sure how.....that oil was slung all over the points, coils, and condensers. The bottom of the plate was pretty much covered with a film of it.
Actually, I brought the motor back in the shop to replace the flywheel with a better one that I bought on ebay. The keyway in my old one was wallowed out a bit from shearing keys, so I wanted to replace it so that my timing would be more perfect.....tis found this problem that I thought I had fixed already.

Back to the bearing question that I posted above......am I missing some rollers ?

Without having the thing in my hands, I am pretty sure the rollers are caged. In that case, they would be equally spaced all the way around. The other kind of roller bearing has individual rollers that lay right against each other. Assuming (if) they are all laying side by side, there would be a gap space less than one roller wide.

Broken cage or missing roller (s) is a catastrophic failure in most cases.

mmmmmmmmmm missing rollers. I always loved seeing those in engines, especially the small wrist pin rollers. I have seen these get forced into the intake ports and wipe out the pistons. What a cool sight to see.:D:D then they hog out the piston and cylinder with gouges.

Hmmmm. I don't know where they went to, but I'm pretty sure that some are missing. This is just too much space open around the race. I'd say that if there were a total of 20 rollers, it looks like 5 or 6 are gone.
I don't understand how those things would disappear without tearing this thing all to pieces, or why the ones left in there ain't all buggered up looking. I can see through the gaps down the crankshaft where they would turn on......it looks fine too.

Well, no matter now, I'm gonna break this thing apart just to have something to do I guess. I always wanted to "fix" a boat motor. ....ain't you glad I ain't working on a airplane engine at an airport located near you :D

Thanks fellers.....yaw is da man
