well im not sure what to do. i think i might have added to much oil in my gas tank would this cause the miss or lean sneeze? well i had this 1 gallon tank with with some 50 to 1 mix in it for my tiller. i put about 5 ounces of outboard oil to be sade cause i wasnt sure if they were different oils. then put some left ovr stabilizer not much and started the motor. it was hard start on last friday about 50-60 degrees out i think it was 13-14 pulls. before the fill up by the way. all i did was add 2 gallons with 1 pint of oil to the already mixed gas on friday. then i took the leftovr gas from tiller added oil and put that in the tank today. took even longer to start and it was coughing for soemthing like a jerk. i noticed it did the same thing on friday but after it warmed up it stopped. it just kept coughing all day and i couldnt get it to idle like it was on friday. i did a quick readjustment of the needles again and it helped some but still did some. i noticed when evr i adjust the needles the low speed needle is out about 1 and a half turns then i turn it in abotu 1/8 of a turn any more it will cough like crazy this normal? but after the adjustemnt it helped some. i checked the spark plugs and the bottom one seemed more oily then the topwould be caused by gravity? more oil or gas to the bottom cylinder? i noticed that if i pulled even one plug out on both it wouldnt even start. lol didnt wanna try to pull the cord out while it was running i had a bad experiencel lol zzz shocker. only problems i could see would be dirty carb bad spark to much oil. i do notice some but few sediments of rust in the bowl it might be time to get a filter but i dont know if this motor had one?

DO NOT USE "tiller" (Air cooled) oil in an outboard. It's different and will harm the engine. ONLY use TCW-3 rated outboard oil.

If I were you, I'd clean and rebuild the carb and start over with fresh gas/oil mixed at 50:1. (one pint per six gallons of gas.)

What DJ said. Your description sounds like a murder mystery puzzle. Dump all the gas/oil mix and start over with the right stuff.

Over-rich oil in the mix will not cause sneezing. Gummed up carbs do that.

Get fresh correctly mixed fuel....
The old stuff save for the lawn mower,it won't care and it will burn it fine.

...or replace the motor. You'll have to do one or the other. I would replace the fuel.

Check your local marina, they usually have a fuel waste drum, or even the recycling center at your city's refuse (city dump). The city refuse will usually take if for free because they do not want you to dump it in the water or on the land...where it will eventually end up in the water through seepage or runoff after it rains!

whats wrong with the gas now. tasha said that it wont cause the miss and is probably a carb problem. the extra lubrication will just porbably smoke and lead to more carbons and build up. easily fixed with some good 16 oz of seafoam =D i love the white smoke from it lol

Gas in my neck of the woods is now at $1.50...almost free in relative terms. Properly dispose of the gas and do it right!

Doing things "right" will solve all problems!

If it were me, I'd dump all the fuel and start over with fresh fuel mixed 24:1 (assuming this is your 1959 motor). Gas isn't all that expensive right now, and I'd just rather have my motor running right. If you still have problems and can't adjust your needles to stop the sneezing, then you'll know you need to reclean your carburator. You should probably look into getting a fuel filter since you finding rust in your sediment bowl.

Re: missing or lean sneeze not sure

ok well i really dont like wasting things so ill take the motor out and use the about 4gallons. then take motor in clean carb and rebuild get new 6 gallons and 1 quart of tcw-3 oil in it then my extra 2 gallon tank with 6 ounces of oil.

for my motor i feel i need a fuel filter but one isnt installed on it where can i get one?
the rebuild kit that i used didnt come with a gasket for the sediment bowl. where can i get one of those? do i need to replace the float again since i did about 2 months ago with the new modern one. cause i feel like buying the kit from the local napa with no float.

to wrap things up where can i get a fuel filter and the gasket for the sediment bowl:confused:

There is no need to replace the float again.

I would buy a carb rebuild kit without the float, then go to http://www.laingsoutboards.com/ and either call or e-mail him to get the sediment bowl gasket and the fuel filter.
