I just bought a 1993 Mercury Black Max 275 and it seems to be missing some kind of electrical harness on the back, top section of the motor. Any ideas as to what this missing part may be??

This picture may clarify things:

Thanks.

Are you kidding?

There's no coils and plug leads. It's not clear but the switchbox may also be missing.

BTW, let's talk about a MAJOR mud line!

Did you know what happened to the cowl?

Fawk ;)

But even then, i'm not sure it's a joke (he's asking for serial#/year a few days ago for that engine: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=381743)!

Look like a CL special thant only need a little TLC...Hope he doesn't pay a lot for the whole rig. By the smashed cowling, i'd bet on a hurricane boat.

haha...no joke my friends. That pic is a little old. The boat has been cleaned up quite a bit since then. The boat was given to me and is actually in decent shape, but has just been the victim of a hurricane and has been sitting up ever since. I ran this boat quite a bit before the storm and it did great, never a problem. I know that the motor looks a little rough now, but I'm not ready to haul it off to the scrap yeard just yet.

During the storm, while the boat was in the slip down at the marina, the water had risen high enough to float all of the boats out of thier slips which created a gigantic mess of free roaming boats colliding with each other and causing all kinds of damage. This boat was actually hit from behind by another boat which shaved off the top of the plugs, the wires, and whatever distributor they might have connected to.

I was just unsure as to what was on the back of the motor that the plug wires plugged into. Is it some kind of distributor cap or are there coil packs?? I'm having trouble tracking down a repair manual for this motor which is why I'm asking these questions.

Didnt mean to alarm anyone...I completely forgot about it being April Fool's Day...Thanks again.

Thats not a 1993 engine it is a mid 80's 3.4 liter V-6 (look at trim and mounting bracket) and parts are like finding a hens tooth..rare. Most parts are NLA from Merc so your best bet is to :A) Find a 3.4 for parts(good luck) (B) Repower.
