Hey guys went to go out on the boat the other day and I noticed my ignition switch had moved(turned) so I reached up under the dash to move back and tighten the jam nut and it was hot. Checked it out and the green and brown hot wires were touching a ground wire. Removed switch to cover wires and went about going out. Motor started fine and away I went through the no wake zone. Then went to open it up and it felt like it was running on one cyl. Never had an issue before. Came home and pulled flywheel to check the coils and I cant find anything wrong???? No burnt wires and they both ohm out the same??? Anybody have an idea what I am missing???? The motor is a 1963 40hp electramatic. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Missing???

Was that "ground" wire one of the black wires going to the "M" terminals? If so, those are the kill wires and go to the points and coil of their respective cylinders. So you fed a 12volt whallop to one of those. Look again for fried coil or points. Or possibly one of the black wires is melted somewhere between the switch and motor, grounding out.

Re: Missing???

Yes it as one of the kill wires but I cant find anything wrong with the coils or points. Have removed the coils and checked the points and they are fine. I will check if I have a melted wire in the loom somewhere and to answer the other question I dont know if I am getting spark at both plugs. Will have to pull out the water barrel to check. Thanks for the replies.
