Hi folks, I am getting ready to travel a few miles this Sunday to investigate an old "tower of power" I am thinking of purchasing and I need some help. The seller has a "100 hp short shaft" It has a red stripe on the cowling and the late sixties look with respect to the block. He gave me a serial # from the motor bracket of 2211156 which looks to me to be either a 1100 or a 950 not a 1000. As long as the motor is sound I plan to buy it as any of those three motors would be acceptable. That said, how do I tell what it is? It sounds like the type II Thunderbolt ignition, (trigger actuated: not points), which I preferr, as I had trouble with the point triggerd ignition years back and have a bad attitude about those.
As long as it is a 1967 110 or 95 hp I would be good with either. How do I tell which one this is, and where would there be a confirming serial # on this motor, (if there is one)? How much of a problem will it be to maintain if I can't tell which one this thing is? Thanks for your help.
