Mix gas/oil to winterize?

I pre mix my 225 HP Johnny at 50:1. When I winterize it, should I mix the oil and gas before adding stabilizer to the 85 gal. tank, or should I leave out the oil until I start running next season? Also, what are your thoughts on running all of the gas/oil mixture out of the carbs versus leaving the carbs full of the gas/oil mix for winterization?<br />Stalker

I would mix the oil...that way you won't forget next year. :) I think it's best to leave the carbs full, but make sure you run the engine for a little while after adding stabilizer to get it up to the carbs.

I agree. I pump the ball once a month to keep the bowls full too. I know others will dissagree. I'm up in NH and never had a problem.<br /><br />-W

Where are you at that you are now just going to winterize? Just curious in northern wisconsin we put them to bed in October and I am wishing it was time to wake her up about now. Another three months and I should be ready to pull the cover off of her. As for the gas and oil, before I got my Honda I used to pre-mix and then add the stabilizer run for 5-10 min and all should be good. :)

I'm in Florida and will return to New England in May. Boat will be idle from May to Oct. I used to keep the carbs full over the winter in CT. on my old boat but had a few problems thats why I'm thinking of running the carbs dry. What could it hurt?<br />Stalker

If you are not going to be around to keep the bowls full I would run it dry, by Oct the fuel that was in them will be gone. What type of problems did you have with your old boat from keeping the fuel in them?

Radsrh:<br /> Sludge built up in the carbs. Not a lot, but enough to make it run rough until I either cleaned them, or ran a tank or two at the beginning of the season. I will definitely run the carbs dry.<br />Stalker
