Mixed Gas: How Old is too old?

I have 50:1 mixed gas from last year. Is this too old to use?

I would not it, use it for your lawnmowers or power tools!, get new gas every year,never let mixed gas sit!

Too old for an outboard! Don't chance it! I'm sure even with stabalizer in it, it has broken down by now.

dump it in the gutter at midnight when no one is looking? heheh or set it on fire in your driveway? or see if there is a disposal service in your area, or call the city waste ppl.

Dhadley-<br />I have a 6 month season and a 100 gal. below deck sealed tank. Every season before storage I fill the tank and treat the gas with Sta-bil. Do you think I'm better off running the tank dry and filling in the spring? I'm afraid of condensation. What's your opinion?

I have the same question as Bushleaguer. I have about a 25 gallon under deck tank and always fill it up with full and add stabilizer. Runs like crap at first then once most of that tanks run through it will get back to going good.<br /><br />What should we do?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Bryan Cox

I never use fuel older than 30 days. Each spring we see motors come out of extended storage that have been fine the year before and stick a piston running on last years fuel.<br /><br />However, the fuel is not as bad as it was when it had MTBE in it. If you have been doing this the last few years and it works for you, then I think it would be hard to change. I have been told that the new Sta-Bil captures the oxygen molecules and prevents octane loss. <br /><br />Condensation should be the least of your worries. The water seperator will take care of that. A few years back Mercury came out with a bulletin about storing the boat with a empty (or near empty) tank. I used to have a copy. Wish I still did. Maybe they have issued a newer one. Maybe one of our friends at a Mercury dealership can find one and post it.<br /><br />Good luck!

I do the same thing as Dhadley. I take it to hazmat dump site. a facility opened-up only 3 times a year here in my county.<br />But call whoever hauls your garbage off, and they will have the best solution for you.

What we're missing here is that these people are adding stabilizer to their tanks , but allowwing the stiill unstabile fuel to remain in the carbs.To all listening ,add the stabiliser to your tank, then run the engine long enough,about 20 minutes, for the stabile fuel to reach the float bowls.Works for me.
