Mixing additives question

Would any harm come if I were to premix my 2 stroke oil and Stabil prior to adding the fuel? I just bought 1 gallon of 2 stroke syn blend oil and a container of Stabil. To lube 10 gallons of gas I need 26 oz of oil for a 50:1 ratio. To treat 10 gallons of gas I need 1 oz of Stabil. A full gallon of oil with lube 50 gallons of gas and I will need 5 oz of Stabil. Will it be safe to mix. I worry about forming globs or gunk. When I got boating I use 5 gallons of fuel at a time. And that gallon of oil will last me all summer.

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Mixing additives question

I have pre mixed stabil with the oil, then add gas, and no problems.

Premix your OK. Using in an injector system, not good

Agree, the Sta-Bil is in there is to treat the gas not the oil. If you put it in the oil tank it won't do anything for the gas in the gas tank which is where you need it. Pre-Mix with your oil and then adding the mix in the main fuel tank will produce the same results as adding it after or before you add the oil.

If I'm reading your mind, you want to make sure you always add Sta-Bil and maybe not have to carry another bottle of something in the boat. If you get gas at a Marina all you have to do is add the oil and you know you're good to go. Good creative idea, I like it.

She's an old motor '89. No oil injector, oil goes right in the gas tank. Thank you for all the replies.

If you put it in your oil tank your diluting the oil and you end up with something less than a 50:1 mix.

Re: Mixing additives question

I always put the oil in first, then the gas, so if I misjudge the amount, I have room for the oil. I keep the tank full so I usually add a pint, then 6 gallons, repeat. Or when getting to the top, 1/2 pint then 3 gallons. Worse case I get a little too much oil which IMO is better than not enough. Anyway it doesn't have to be exact. Plus adding the volume of gas on top of the oil mixes it.

I always put the stabil and ringfree in first. That way the gas washes it into the tank, and mixes it. If you add it to a full tank, it just sits in the top of the fill tube. And ringfree is so thick no telling how much gets in there and how much stays on the tube.

2nd Home Cookin'. Add it first so you have room and it gets mixed up. You expressed concern about "globs". Do you have an inline filter?

On the injection engines, I still mix the gas and oil. We have 2 jet skis and 3 outboards at the shop that had a failure in the injection system and smoked the motors.

Re: Mixing additives question

I talked to a guy at a Marina who told me mercury oil injection systems are very reliable and of a good design. He says they leave them intact. He says they wont warranty any other motor with an oil injection system though, unless disabled. I did have an oil line sever somehow under the motor cover that runs from the tank to the motor. :( drove it half a mile like that. I now have low compression on one cylinder. Ill be rebuilding it this winter once I find the parts

Yes I have an inline filter with a glass sides. Plus my fuel pumps have a screen inside. I believe there is a screen on the fuel tube inside the tank.

We recommend the glass filters to all of our outboard customers. Personally, I use the Stabil to rinse the oil out of the measuring cylinder.
