MK advertises their Terrova to be easily deployable....manually push down the lever and motor "drops" in the water. Myself, I ease the motor into the water, just seems like alot less strain on the mechanisim's than letting it 'drop' into the water. I've seen others let it self deploy as well, my question is maybe its built to take it and self deploy... Putting this on the forum for some feedback and what other do.

What difference does it make. You don't like to let it drop and I don't either so I "assist" with any of the trollers I've owned over the years. Anything that drops and then stops with a thud is worthy of a bit of protection. Minnkota may not care what it sounds like or if it breaks -- they get to sell parts that way.

Maybe the motor can take it, but it would be like a hammer blow to the mounting points on the boat each time you dropped it. Your approach makes sense to me.

Good advice from NYBo.

I have a Terrova 80lb thrust and 60" shaft and I absolutely assist it. It is easy to use and balanced pretty well considering the shaft length, but I spent a pretty good buck on that motor with all that technology and you bet I'm going to "assist" its water entry.

Great product and good customer service from Minn Kota.
