A good friend of mines dad has worked at the New York Mills,MN Lund plant for 12 years wich is like 20min from my home. He calls me up yesterday and says they closed down the plant, complete layoff. Havent got the whole scoop yet but it supposedly has to do with all the embezeling that exec was doing. Im getting a follow up soon on what the heck is going on. That really sucks to hear! Thought fellow Lund boat owners would be interested. Once again I heard this and do not know or claim to know the facts, just know what I heard.

Nothing in the papers about this, and it seems like it would make the news.

glenf:<br />When you get the scoop let us know. I can’t imagine that Brunswick would stop production on Lund that is a very popular aluminum boat

Lund's website still lists its addresses as in New York Mills, Mn. and Manitoba.

IT IS NOT TRUE! I just called the phone number listed on their site, the receptionist told me they are still open and building boats. She said that rumor is not true!!

There has been excess inventory and production capacity for most manufacturers so production cutbacks may or may not be involved with Lund. The fact they said they are open and building boats is "PR Speak" for yes we are open, everything is fine, and we built two boats today.

Sure hope they don't close before I can afford that 1800 PRO V with a 150 Evinrude E-TEC.

Boats, like cars, is an up and down industry. With high gas prices, boat sales will undoubtedly drop for awhile. Those manufacturers operating on a pretty slim margin may or may not make it. The majors generally weather the storm.

sorry about the delay in getting back to you guys. Ive been away from home on business. Anyways I have drove by the plant and the parking lot looks like a schools during summer vacation. They however are still in business. There has been a big layoff as I personally know over 20 former employees. I couldnt find an exact reason why, just rumors. Hopefully things pick up for the company and these people get their jobs back. Its hurt the local economy. Best of luck to Lund and the community.

Probably since now that Brunswick owns the Lund brand, they will produce them in a cheaper to operate plant. Look at what happened to some of the other boat lines after they got ahold of them.
