Mobil 1 jugs being discontinued at Wally-world?

This past weekend I begrudgingly went to Wally-world for my usual routine of picking up a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1, and a Motorcraft filter. If anybody has ever bought Mobil 1 from Wally-world, they know that the 5 quart jugs usually run 10-15 dollars cheaper than anybody else selling it. For $28 bucks (including the filter) I can do a synthetic oil change to my car.

Well anyway... I get to the auto department, and walk the row's of various brands of oil. I get to the very end where they keep the good stuff, and to my surprise the shelves that normally carry Mobil 1 look like the dairy case of the supermarket the day before a forecasted blizzard. Pretty sparse. My car calls for 5W-20, and all they had were 2 individual quarts. They had a few jugs of 5W-30, 10W-30, and 15W-50. I also noticed that there was some price tags on the shelves that marked down the the extended performance 5W-20, and 5W-30 to a mere $14 a jug! Naturally they were all gone.

I spent 20 minutes looking around the aisle to see if there were any hidden jugs, or if this was some kind of joke, nope. So I reluctantly picked up a jug of Castrol 5W-20, then faded off to find my girlfriend in the vast void of nothingness, and chaos.

Yesterday I was thinking about it again, and came to the conclusion "they can't do that to me!!" I checked out another Walmart in the town I work in, and sure enough, the shelves were looking pretty sorry. On the way home, I went to another Walmart the next town over from where I'm living, and found them fully stocked on 5W-20 jugs. Apparently nobody in the area drives a newer Ford, Honda, or Toyota. I picked up 2 just in-case, and went on my merry way.

So... My question to all those who cared to read this 2 minute long diatribe.. Has anybody else noticed the same phenomenon at their local Wally-world?
Have the bean counters at one giant corporation pushed the bean counters at another giant corporation too far, in the name of "everyday low prices", and that second giant told the first giant to pound sand?

BTW, this is the scary result when asking Google the same question;
Google

Notice the line down below in most of the links; "This item is being discontinued". Although, if you actually click on the links, the Wally-world web page that opens up mentions nothing of the sort...

A couple of years ago, they built us an all new "Super Walmart" and closed our old run down "Normal Walmart" now of course in this move to all new, we lost the auto service dept, and many items in the auto dept disappeared, the section is now 1/3 rd the size of what it was in our old worn out store.

That said, when I was there yesterday, they were fully stocked with the 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1.

Wally World has a state-of-the-art computerized ordering system that ensures that they will not run out of stock on anything. The only exceptions are when they run a loss-leader sale or if there is a run on things like bullets. The breakdown in stocking usually results because the night shift Manager is dropping the ball. The stock is usually in the back room - it just hasn't been put out yet.

Next time that happens ask to speak to the Auto Dept Manager - he might be able to go in the back room and get one for you.

If they are still carrying it, the night shift manager at the first store must have been out sick for a week. Those shelves were BARE. Probably only a dozen jugs left of various weights of oil I couldn't use. The other two stores were missing a good amount too, but it wasn't as dramatic looking because they had allot less shelving space dedicated to Mobil 1.

They'll probably be back next month in a container with a different shape.

Mobil 1 5w20 is on their website, listed as "In Store only". When I clicked on it, it says it's in stock in East Peoria, IL store.

So your stores just had an issue. Or the Snowstorm caused the closest distribution center to not get in the load, so there is a delay.

Still, I'd ask the department manager.

If I have trouble again, I'll ask. I currently have the 3 jugs of oil which is 3+ oil changes. I usually run 7-10K between changes when using synthetic. May take a while... ;)
