I have a 86 omc cobra 5.7 outdrive and i was wondering if it was okay to put the mobile 1 LS syntheic gear oil 75-90w in it. I saw a post earlier about using Mobile 1 GL-5 syntheic gear oil 75-90 but all i can find is the LS gear oil.
Will this be okay or should i drain it back out and look for something different. I don't want to burn up my outdrive so i have started the engine up yet. Thanks for any suggestions, Rick

Re: Mobile 1 LS gear oil in my omc cobra

I think the LS is the same as the GL-5.

I saw this on Mobil1.com:
"Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 meets the most severe API Service MT-1 and GL-5 EP gear oil service classification."

"Mobil 1 Synthetic gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 is intended for initial fill, topping-off or refilling differentials, final drives, transfer cases and other gear applications where lubricants meeting API Service GL-5 and multi-purpose or mild EP gear lubricants are recommended "

Hope this helps.
