You can use it or you can ask the vendor to exchange it. It will do no harm either way.
BTW, I well remember the day when 40,000 was considered high mileage.
It is Mobil 1, not Mobile 1
The high mileage formula just has a little solvent in it to soften up the oil seals. Other than that, it's the same stuff.
Speaking of high mileage, I remember when getting to 100,000 was a milestone worth celebrating.
This week I bought a 93 Honda Accord with 218,000 miles on it, caught up on 800 bucks worth of periodic maintenance, and fully expect to drive it 50 to 100 thousand more without major trouble.
I also have a Chev 4.3 V6 engine with 328,000 on it. It needs gaskets and seals, a valve grind, and maybe rings. No crank bearings will be replaced. It will go into a conversion van and be expected to run another 100,000 or so.
The secret is good oil, (I use Tech full synthetic) keeping the fluids up, (they all leak eventually, no harm done as long as you keep it topped off), and religious filter maintenance.
Notice I didn't say frequent oil changes. It's not necessary with synthetic if you keep the filters from bypassing (3000 miles or so) and you're not in extreme conditions, like not warming up the engine in winter, or extreme dust.
With dino oil, frequent oil changes are required because of the chemistry of the oil.
