Greetings again.

In my previous post I spoke of a Johnson 1960 40hp. Can this be confirmed as there is nothing on the engine now except the partly decomposed aluminium plate. This is what I have managed to decypher.

Model number A-16023
Model serial RD-26-R (could be BD-28-R or a combination of!!)
I cannot tell if the 26 is an 28 or the RD is a BD.

Thanks,
ND

Re: model number help

Gears should be interchangable between those two years.Bare in mind there were mechanical and electric shift models. Also if you obtain used parts ,I advise against mating old gears with different wear patterns .May want to consider attempting to locate rebuilt gearcase depending on parts availability.
