I am looking to buy a used motor. A guy has said he bought out a marine shop that reuilds motors. he has about 20 all different hanging on racks. the one I am looking at is a 115 96, 97, 98, or maybe a 99..it is a johnson Ocean Runner...looks JUST like my 97 90 hp ocean pro. with no tag( the motor was repainted) I need to know where to look for the welch plug with the model number.

I have a 1988 88 spl and when you take the cover off you can see two welch plugs ont eh top of the block one has the model number stamped in it. But that is a 90 degree cross flow and it doesnt have the OIS covers like my 97 and the motor i am looking at.

I want to make sure the 115 is really a 115 and not a 90!!!!

the covers interchange!!

I am going to look up the carb numbers and see if they are different bodies on 90 and 115's and maybe i can verify that way.

if someone knows where the welch plug for the 60 degree motors are before i start taking parts off...i would appreciate hearing from them.

thanks

I am having the same problem with my 96 Evinrude 150...no tag and I just wanted to confirm the year and possibly figure out the model. It says 150 Intruder on the Cowl.
