I have a 1989 Force 85 HP (on a Capri 1700) with the non through hub exhaust.
I picked up a 13.5" x 15p through hub exhaust prop for a song. It is either a Merc or Yamaha prop so the spline shaft fits but the reduced diameter rear collar on the prop is too big to fit my lower unit.

I am considering cutting the collar off the prop using a lathe. Is the collar more for weed/silt protection or exhaust flow retention? Since all the exhaust on my outboard comes out the tab on the cavitation plate would removing the collar on this prop hurt anything?

I have a Force 13.5" x 17p through hub prop that works good on it now up to 35 mph @ 5000 rpm. I want to try the 15p to get a little more pull and rpm's for tubing and skiing.

Thanks

I an not sure why a collar in the rear is going to affect your houseing. I hope you mean front of the prop.

You may need a thicker thrust waher to move the prop back on the shaft to clear your housing.

Don't cut the prop it might unbalance or weaken it.

The prop fits if I add some washers between the prop and the hub. The blades wind up about 3/8" away from the exhaust snout. Do you think being this close will be a problem?

Thanks

You need thrust washers. And talk to a marine dealer. There are way too many where you live not too!
