I have a Sea king. It was made by Clinton Engines.
Model # K5011064
Serial # 432415
Type # 60 27205 R
First what year is this?
I cannot get this to run consistantly. It has 360 degree reverse (forward only but swivels 360deg) It is air cooled. Water cooled exhaust/shaft. I have cleaned carb, played with the idle screw also the srew at bottom of the bowl. I also took apart the housing where the reed valves are no problems there. Sometimes it runs alright but then sometimes not. I barely made it back today. I have a 10' Jon boat it will not plane with me 190lbs. Gas tank 5 gallons. Boat may weigh 100 lbs wet. And that is when it is running good (decent) At best i showed 6 MPH wot With GPS
Any thoughts?

I'm not able to find those exact numbers my guess is 73-76.Difficult to tell what your problem is without a better description.Check for a good snappy spark.Points (if any)should be set at .020.CJ8 plug set at .025.These motors are notorious for fuel supply problems.,Especially with the remote tank,Regardless; check the fuel system from tank to carb with special attention to cleaning.

Ok I will check the points. Then the plug.
I have a friend with a mid 90's Nissan 9.9 he will sell for $500.00, carb needs rebuilt. That should plane the 10' Jon huh.

Your 5hp running perfectly might plane your 10 footer if you make yourself a tiller extension so you can sit in the middle seat.We used to easily plane a 12ft. flat bottomed steel boat with and OMC based 5 hp Bucaneer.
It would plane easily a 180 lb.adult with a tiller extension.
or a 120 lb adult and 2 40 lb children.But the Bucaneer
would porbably out perform your 5 or the 7.5 version of your motor as well.
The 9.9 should plane easily but is probably about double the rated hp. for the boat.

It is a " Home built Alluminium Jon" I reinforced the transom. I used 3/4" Sealed Plywood over the entire rear of Jon. It is much stronger now. See>

Do you guys see any undesirable outcomes to using the Big 9.9 2 stroke on a 10' Jon? It is titled as a homebuilt. No regs on it here cuz its a 10' boat.

Re: Mont. ward Sea King 5 HP

I believe there is a coastguard formula to figure both motor and weight capacity. A typical 10 ft jon is rated at roughly 3 to 6 hp.
While your transom may be fine for a 9.9 a flat bottomed boat of any kind can be dangerous at almost any planing speed, especially if narrow.Turning and handling waves can be tricky. If the boat doesn't have a keel it could be even more skitterish.
We flipped or flat bottom steel boat in a following sea from a large boat.

Is this one one of those flatbottom boats with no keel?

My guess is that's about 110 hp over the rating.
Must be a pleasure to drive.
