My 194FS ? has a problem.
Opened the engine cover and it came right off the hinge.
It appears that there must have been some form of threaded insert set into the lid (wood ?) and they are no longer there ?.
Please can you take a look at the document on this link .. have put picturers and more details .... looking for help

Tafflad, looks like rot has taken over there. There is more to fix then reattaching the piano hinge. I would remove everything away from that area to see what truly is rotted out. There is more to replace and repair before it is sound and solid again to support any hinge. But that is just my uneducated guess. Others will chime in shortly and offer better ideas I'm sure. JMHO!

Yep ... intend stripping vinyl off .. to find out what's up. A job I could do without.

You need to remove the covering before you can see the rotten wood.
May need to build or replace that piece of the cover.

For a boat that is not moored up, and had its own under cover boat store - pretty bad if the thing has rotted - I was given to understand there was no wood in this boat, it was all composite - guess that is not true.

No Title

OK stripped back the Vinyl ... surprised to see they have a layer of plastic to keep water out, this would also keep 'in' any water that gets in, and judging by how wet foam was .. plenty in getting in. Really should have a couple of vents to let water get out or at least the damp air.

Anyway found that all that was left of the T-Nuts was as in attached picture .... a very thin rust film on the foam ... fully rusted away - why on earth would Monterey use mild steel nuts is a marine item - this is poor .... VERY poor quality.

At least the plywood is fine ... so will go up a size in T-Nut (8mm) in stainless steel and refit ...
I really did not expect this level of build from Monterey.
